The Chateau of Chaintres welcomes you... and wish you happy new year!
Patinated by time, in the middle of the vines, the Chateau of Chaintres is a charming 17th century mansion house, located in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation.
The vineyard extends over about twenty hectares, including the famous clos du Château, which is an exceptional and unique size in the appellation (nearly 44 acres). The wall was built in 1675 by the Oratorian Fathers of Notre Dame des Ardilliers who chose this place for its terroir and its sunshine.
Since 1938, the de Tigny family has continued the tradition by offering you fine wines, including Saumur Champigny.
Elisabeth de Tigny Mourot, General Manager, combines tradition and modernity to offer quality wines.
The vines, the terroir
After being one of the first certified domains in Reasoned Agriculture, we turned to Organic Agriculture.
Our wines have been certified ORGANIC by Ecocert France since the 2013 vintages.
A large number of important changes at the Domaine in 2018 have already had a positive impact on our production:
- Our new Winery Master, Jean-Philippe LOUIS, joined the team in 2017. Jean-Philippe's finesse in the production of wines in the Sancerre region, combined with his strong experience in biodynamic agriculture, is a major asset for the Domaine.
- Soil analyses of our vineyard have given us a better knowledge of our terroirs and guide us in the design of our next vintages. Maturity, harvest period and blending will improve quality as part of the vinification process.
- A better knowledge of organic methods and biodynamics is already generating improved techniques in the vines and in the winery.
